acid.milch&honig has released stylobox v1.0 and transistordrums v2.0c. Both plug-ins are free / donationware and are available for Windows as VST instrument plug-ins. stylobox is like a virtual analog or physical modelling emulation of a well known toy instrument classic. It works without any samples, so octaves are possible. The only parameter is the vibrato on/off switch, which can be used with the mod-wheel. transistor drums is a drum machine that uses different kinds of sound generating: the kick drum works analogue-style, the snare drum works hybrid analogue-style/sampling, the clap is granular sampled and the rest of the drums are built with samples. Velocity affects not only volume – it also has an influence on the EQ in the background, analog parameters and also (minimally) to the envelope. Also built in is a microtuning random generator which generates for every drum beat a tiny difference mainly on pitch but also on other parameters to generate a more sensitive pseudo-realistic sound. Audio Genetics Lab has released Magnus Chord Organ, a free reed organ instrument for Native Instruments Kontakt. Dug up from the archives and presented free to the public is our newest genetic specimen: the Magnus Chord Organ. This small subspecies is closely related to the accordion and harmonica, with the key difference being the source of the air movement generating from an electric fan as opposed to moving bellows or lungs. Originally three keyboard octaves, and including a number of accordion-like chord buttons, this family instrument was widely distributed in the 1970’s. It has a raw, charming quality to its sound. Hello Robot has announced the release of two new free VST instrument plug-ins for Windows: Rocket Punch and BiT BOX. Rocket Punch is a synth that features a fast response oscillator with extended harmonics and hyper-speed mod envelope for deep punchy basslines and leads. Also good for FM FX and circuit bent sounds, with adjustable bit-rate for classic video game chip sounds. BiT BOX - An 8-bit drum sampler with randomization functions.
